Add Color to Your Home

Is it time to add a splash of color to your home? If so, picking the right color to meet your needs is an essential part of the process.

When used correctly, color can completely transform a room—or an entire home. Therefore, color is a homeowner’s most powerful tool when it comes to dramatically changing your home on a budget.

When it comes to the interior of your home, the last thing you want to do is stick with the traditional white and beige walls throughout your entire home. Even if you do not want bold colors (like bright red), you can add a splash of brightness by choosing certain hues to highlight your home’s features (even pastels, when used correctly, can go a long way in making your home more appealing).

On the other hand, the exterior of the home can be highlighted as well with a splash of color. When people see your home for the first time, the front door is the focal point. Therefore, the door is the best place to use an accent color if you are looking to draw attention to your home.

Picking just the right color can be a challenge, especially when you take lighting into consideration. Have you ever seen a paint chip of color that you absolutely loved in a store, but found it looked completely different when you took it home?  If so, you experienced "metamerism," a phenomenon where colors seem to change when viewed under different light sources. Therefore, it is best to view your color swatches in the actual space and lighting conditions where they will be applied.

There are several online links to different paint companies that can assist with choosing color.  Visit Sherwin Williams, Glidden, Valspar, Behr, Porter Paints and Benjamin Moore's websites to view virtual visualizers to assist when selecting paint colors.
