Choosing The Right Painting Contractor

When it comes to hiring anyone to work in or around your home, you should always do your research.  Let’s face it, when you open up the local yellow pages you are faced with an overwhelming list of companies and phone numbers.  Then you do a Google search, the list of painting contractors in Lee and Collier Counties can even be more overwhelming. I have attached a list of over 90 Painting Contractors that are my competitors… They are listed in the 2010-2011 Fort Myers Yellow Pages and also on a Google Search.  This list covers Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Estero and a couple painters are from Naples Florida.  I will be adding additional painters to the list as I find new ones. I apologize if I have missed a local painter that you are looking for. I have attached this list of painting contractors not to loose your painting business, but to educate you on the process of hiring a professional painting contractor. I know some of these companies personally.  I believe for the most part they all do terrific work and have the right credentials; however, my advice to anyone looking to hire a painting contractor is to do your due diligence.  Read my article on "Hiring a Painter" and review my list list of comparison questions for painting contractors.

• Are these companies licensed and insured?
• Do they have a list of references available that you can call?
• Do they have a website where you can learn more about their painting services?
• Are they a company that I feel comfortable with in my home?
• Are the employees that work for them covered under workers comp, or are they paid as sub-contractors with no workers comp?
• How long have they been in business as a painting contractor?
• Does the painting contractor that you are about to hire do a background check and drug test on their employees?
• Do they just have a cell phone number for a point of contact?
• Why don't they have a land line they can be reached at?
• Do they have roots to the community?

When you are reviewing your painting estimate, the cheapest price is not always best price.  There is a reason that particular painting contractor is cheaper.  All painters pay about the same for the paint they are going to use on your home, depending on the grade of paint they are planning on using.  So if the painter that came in with the cheapest price quote is going to paint your home, stop and think for a minute.

·        Can this painter really do a good job and paint my home for that price?

·        What corners are they cutting to save money to come in at this price?

·        Are they using a premium grade of paint on my home or are they using a cheaper grade of paint just so they can get your business.

·        What grade of caulking are they using on my Southwest Florida home

Below are links to Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore's website.  Just click on the paint manufacturers product you want to view and you will see how many different grades of paint are available to the homeowner and painting contractors.  You always want to make sure what grade of paint your painting contractor you are about to hire is going to use.  Are they telling you they are using a premium grade of paint, when in fact when they show up and you see the cans it is a lower grade of paint.  By reviewing the below links you can educate yourself on the different grades of paint, and how they perform.  Also call your local paint company and ask to speak with the store manager or sales rep.
